How to Choose the Right Gaming Monitor
A lot of gamers, more specifically the newer ones, have a difficult time deciding on which gaming monitor is the right fit for them. The most common panel technology being used today is the In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, as well as Twisted Nematic (TN ) panel. To address the issue of tearing, two of the biggest names in graphics hardware manufacturers, AMD and Nvidia have come up with a solution. Nvidia came up with G-Sync while AMD produced their own version Freesync, which eliminates tearing by syncing the monitors refresh rates with the GPU’s own refresh rates. The results are smoother transitions and altogether eliminating the problem with tearing. The only difference between the two is that G-Sync is an added feature and will cost you extra, while Fressync, as the name suggests, is free.
Monitor Size and Resolution
When it comes to monitor sizes, you may think bigger is better. This may be true in most cases, but you have to consider if your graphics processor unit is capable of powering your monitors hefty demands in terms of resources. Ideally you would get a 24-inch monitor display as your first gaming monitor. This is the baseline in terms of size, anything smaller will give you a not-so-good gaming experience. The most common resolution is 1080P for full HD. This is good to begin with, although you might want a higer resolution for forward compatibility.
